Noise

The State of Hawaii has adopted noise standards to ensure that Oahu residents will not be affected by noise from developments near their communities, including wind development [Hawaii Administrative Rules, Chapter 11-46]. Hawaii’s noise standards are rigorous and go to great lengths to protect residents from noise above 45 decibels, the equivalent of a whisper.

Initial noise studies have been completed for the Na Pua Makani project and the results of these studies indicate that the project will meet or exceed all of these standards. Due to the proposed setbacks from the Kahuku schools and residential areas, the noise levels will be below the 45-decibel requirement established under Hawaii’s noise ordinance.
